How to Wire a Car Amp & 4 Sub Speakers

Wiring a car amp to sub speakers is not difficult in and of itself, though there are many different ways of doing so depending on how many subs you have, and what your amp can support. Depending on whether you have a mono, 2-channel, or 4-channel amp, there are different processes to connecting your subwoofer speakers. You will need to number your subs one through four, and will employ positive, negative, and bridge wire in order to complete the set up. Properly connecting your subs will ensure that you get the full benefit of all four subs.

Instructions

  1. Mono Amp

    • 1

      Locate the output terminals on your amp. There should be two outputs, one negative, one positive.

      Connect positive wire from the positive terminal on your amp to the positive terminal on subwoofer number one.

      Connect positive wire from subwoofer number one to subwoofer number two.

      Connect a bridge wire from subwoofer number two to subwoofer number four. This will connect from the negative terminal on subwoofer number two to the positive terminal on subwoofer number four.

      Connect negative wire from subwoofer number four to subwoofer number three.

      Connect negative wire from subwoofer number three to the negative terminal on your amp.

      Connect a bridge wire from the positive terminal on subwoofer number 3 to the negative terminal on subwoofer number one.

    Two Channel Amp

      Locate the output terminals on your amp. There should be four outputs, two positive, two negative.

      Connect negative wire from the first negative terminal on your amp to the negative terminal on subwoofer number one.

    Four Channel Amp

      Locate the output terminals on your amp. There should be a total of eight, four positive, four negative.

      Connect negative wire from the first negative terminal on your amp to the negative terminal on subwoofer number one. Connect positive wire from the first positive terminal on your amp to the positive terminal on subwoofer number one.

      Connect negative wire from the fourth negative terminal on your amp to the negative terminal on subwoofer number four. Connect positive wire from the forth positive terminal on your amp to the positive terminal on subwoofer number four.
