How to Put an Engine on a Scooter
A Gy6 engine is a four-stroke single cylinder head engine with two valves. This gasoline engine is commonly used in all Chinese 125cc and 150cc scooters. Lance, Flyscooters, Tank, Buddies and other well known manufactures use this engine on their models. These engines are known for their durability and performance. Gy6 engines are bulky and awkward but easy to handle.

- 10 mm socket and open-end wrench
- 12 mm socket and open-end wrench
- 13 mm open-end wrench
- 14 mm socket
- Phillips screwdriver
- Pliers

Check before beginning this task to see that you have the engine main mount bolt in sight. This bolt is approximately 9 inches long and holds the engine in place.

Slide the engine under the scooter frame. Lift the front of engine up and align all motor mount holes. Insert the 9-inch bolt all the way to hold the engine in place. Lift the rear of transmission up and bolt it to the shock absorber arm. At this point the engine should be in place.

Carefully slide the tire into the transmission shaft and tighten the nut.

Insert the brake cable and spring into the wheel brake drum assembly and adjust.

Connect the engine stator wires into the scooter's harness connectors.

Replace the fuel line hose into the carburetors brass fuel feed stem.

Connect the gas throttle cable to the carburetors throttle shaft.

Connect the electric choke wires to the scooter harness connectors.

Insert the coil wire end into the spark plug head.

Attach the muffler to the scooter frame and engine head and bolt.

Start the engine and make carburetor idle adjustments.
