How to Straighten White Hair

When it comes to hair, women often want what they don't have. People with straight hair wish for curls, and those with curly hair covet straight locks. Thankfully, today's styling tools, treatments and products mean that virtually any hairstyle is available to every woman. With a little bit of time and effort, curly-haired Caucasian women should be able to straighten their hair at home. If all else fails, stubborn hair can be chemically treated at a hair salon to achieve straight, glossy strands.

Things You'll Need

  • Hair dryer
  • Round brush
  • Flat Iron
  • Spray bottle
  • Ponytail holder or clip
  • Hair gel or serum
  • Hairspray
  • Shine serum (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Shampoo and condition hair with extra-moisturizing products. Straightening your hair requires heat-styling tools and can be potentially damaging to your hair and scalp.

    • 2

Tie hair back with a ponytail holder or secure clip, pulling out one two-inch section of hair at a time. Apply a small amount of straightening product, such as a gel or serum, to each section before you dry it.

    • 3

Use a sturdy round brush with coarse bristles to dry hair in sections. Pull hair straight and angle the hair dryer down towards the hair. Spray hair with water if the sections start to air-dry before you get to them with the hair dryer.

    • 4

Using a heated flat iron, go back over hair in small, two-inch sections, carefully clamping hair between the iron plates and running it from roots to ends.

    • 5

Lightly mist hair with hairspray to hold the style. Optionally, smooth hair down with a shine serum or spray to avoid dull-looking strands.

Tips & Warnings

  • While blow-drying, curl the ends of hair underneath the brush to keep them curled under when dry. Alternatively, flip ends out with the brush for a different look.
  • For a more permanent method of hair straightening, visit your salon for a Brazilian hair straightening treatment or a chemical relaxer. Keep in mind that these treatments can be expensive and may lead to brittle, dry hair.
  • Check the weather report. If there is a chance that you will be going out in the rain or extreme humidity, it might be best to straighten your hair another day as adverse weather conditions can cause frizz and stubborn styles.
