How to Sign up for a Twitter Account

Twitter, the social network that limits posts to 140 characters, took the online world by storm following its launch in 2006. On many occasions, Twitter users have been first to report breaking news and have played important roles in national disasters. Tweets -- the name given to the posts -- appear on evening TV news shows and promote business products and services. It takes just a moment to sign up for a free Twitter account.

Instructions

1. Turn on your computer. Use a Web browser to navigate to the Twitter website.

2. Add your full name, an email address and a password in the areas provided. Click the "Sign Up" button in the lower right corner.

3. Fill out the form. Choose the username suggest by Twitter or type in one of your own. Twitter lets you know if the name is already taken so you can choose another one. Check the box next to "Keep me logged-in on this computer" if you want to remain logged-in. Uncheck the box if you are on a friend's computer or in a public place. Read the Terms of Service and agree to them. Click the 'Create My Account" button.

4. Search for friends and add them to your Twitter account. Upload your photo and some information about you when prompted by the site.
