Tethering allows you to connect another iPhone to the Internet if you have exceeded your monthly allowance of bandwidth, a friend allows you to use her data plan to avoid roaming charges or only one iPhone supports unlimited data. This can be helpful when visiting friends in different states or even different countries and can dramatically reduce the cost of your bill. Regardless of the reason for tethering two iPhones, you must first use a plan that allows you to use one of your iPhones as a personal hot spot.

Step 1

Tap the "Settings" app on the iPhone you want to use to create a personal hot spot.

Step 2

Select the "Personal Hotspot" option. Call your carrier to set up your personal hot spot if you don't see the option, an option to "Set Up Personal Hotspot" or a similar notice.

Step 3

Set the "Personal Hotspot" toggle switch to the "On" position. Take note of the name for the network and the Wi-Fi password.

Step 4

Tap the "Settings" app on your second iPhone.

Step 5

Select the "Wi-Fi" option.

Step 6

Choose the personal hot spot from the "Choose a Network" section.

Step 7

Type the password for the personal hot spot and select "Join."
