Things You'll Need

  • Soft, damp cloth

  • Decoupage glue

  • Paintbrush

  • Paper or card stock

  • Wood

Adding paper or card stock to wood is a quick and easy way to add flair and decoration to a plain wooden box, sign, or plaque. No special tools are required, and the supplies needed are found right in your local craft store. Cut out decorative shapes like hearts, stars, or even animals to add a small design to your wood piece, or cut the paper to the same size as the wood to cover it completely.

Step 2

Dip the paintbrush into the decoupage glue and paint the back side of the paper or card stock with glue.

Step 3

Place the paper or card stock onto the wood in the location you like with the glue facing the wood. Gently smooth the paper onto the wood using your fingers. Start at the center of the paper and work your way out to the edges to remove any air bubbles under the paper.

Step 4

Dip the paintbrush back into the decoupage glue and paint another layer of glue over the outside of the paper.

Step 5

Allow the decoupage to dry completely; then add another layer of glue to add a glossy finish to the paper. Allow time to dry.
