How to Recover Email on a BlackBerry

On a Blackberry, SMTP email is accessed via the Blackberry server and emails reside on the server. Therefore, if the Blackberry device somehow loses connectivity to the Blackberry server, the user's email accounts on the device will show no email in the inbox, and will not send or receive email. Sometimes, the loss of connectivity to the Blackberry server may occur due to account interruptions such as sim card changes or modifications in the provider service plan. To re-establish connectivity and recover email from the server, just a few simple steps are required.

  • Click the Menu button on the Blackberry device to show all menu icons.

  • Scroll to the "Settings" icon and click the trackball to select.

  • Scroll to the "Options" icon in the Settings section. Click the trackball to select.

  • Click the "Advanced Options" selection.

  • Scroll to the "Host Routing Table" entry. Click the trackball to select.

  • Scroll to down to one of non-wifi servers and select the server by clicking twice and choosing "Select" from the context menu. Usually the third and/or fourth entry in the list will show the cell provider's Blackberry host. Make sure one of the cell provider's entries are selected.

  • Click the Back arrow on the device to back out of each screen.

  • Power off the device by pressing and holding the "Off" button for a few seconds.

  • Remove the battery from the device and allow the device to sit for at least 2 minutes.

  • Replace the battery and power on the Blackberry device. Service will be restored through the cell provider's Blackberry server and all email accounts will be reactivated. All emails on the server will be recovered and available through the Blackberry device.
