Tips & Warnings
Western red cedar is a favorite among homeowners. It has a durable quality that resists decay and seems to withstand most insects and pests. The western red cedar also appears better beside its surroundings and holds a strong warm and welcoming look.
Add a decorative appearance to the canopy by sawing out a curving design at the ends of the 2-inch-by-4-inch-by-2-foot pieces. You can also use a craft drill to create scrolling or motif style designs to the outer edges of the canopy as well.
The construction of the trellis canopy should be done without children or pets present. The materials are heavy and the tools can be dangerous for little ones, as well as dogs and cats. Wear protective glasses and gloves when working with the drill or a saw for decorations.
