How to Stop Blocking in Golf Swing
Blocking in a golf swing is when your golf ball goes straight right (if you're right-handed) or straight left (if you're left-handed) off your club. It is caused mostly by an overactive lower body when your hips and knees sway towards your target. This sometimes is the product of swinging too aggressively, which disrupts the rhythm and timing in your swing. The result of blocking is bad shots into trees or hazards, which can lead to a higher score.

How To Stop Blocking Your Golf Swing

One way to stop blocking in your golf swing is to have better posture. You want to feel tall over the ball, never squatting at address. A key if you think you're squatting too much is to have a slight bend of your knees--nothing more.

Blocking in the golf swing happens when you swing too fast. The upper body gets ahead of the lower body, tilting your body back. Slow down the swing and you should get rid of this problem.

While keeping your head down is a key in a golf shot, keeping your head down and straight leads to blocked shots. You need rotation in your swing, so if you turn your head slightly toward the target as you swing, you'll have better shots.

If your hips, shoulders and feet are aimed to the right (if you're a right-handed golfer) you'll block the shot. You need to aim your body left of the target, which leads to more of a free swing. Your hips will clear more quickly, giving you the freedom to swing through the ball.

If the ball is too far back in your stance, that can lead to blocking as well. Move the ball up in your stance, toward your front foot, and this should help in hitting straighter shots.
