How to Get a Transcript for an Online Degree
Online degree programs offer flexibility to non traditional students balancing the demands of work and family. While schools offer classes online that prevent students from ever stepping foot on campus, they also offer many online services students as well. 1
Visit the website of the school's records or registrar's office where student grades and transcripts are managed. Procedures, along with necessary forms, to obtain an online transcript are described on the website.
-
2
Choose between an unofficial or official transcript. Official transcripts are sent directly from a student's school to another school, employer or other requested recipient. Unofficial transcripts are often available to students online through the school's website or the student's online account. This makes it convenient for students to print and use when an unofficial transcript of their online degree is acceptable.

3
Complete a written request. Since transcripts for an online degree are only released to the student and others who the student has granted permission, records offices require a written request be submitted. This is either a transcript request form downloaded from the website of the records office or a written letter which includes the student's name, dates of attendance, identification number and location where the transcript needs to be sent.
-
4
Find the address of the transcript recipient. If a transcript is being sent to another school or an employer, the address of the recipient must be accurately listed on the transcript request form or letter. This includes the office or department the transcript is going to, not just the company or school. A school isn't responsible for a transcript being mailed to the wrong address if the information listed is incorrect or written illegibly.
-
5
Determine mailing preference. Transcript requests for an online degree are generally processed and mailed by regular postal service which takes five to 10 days. Priority mail service is available for those who need transcripts sooner, although this generally costs more.
-
6
Pay for the transcript. Each school sets its own cost for transcript requests, and students usually have the opportunity to pay by check, credit card or cash. Until payment is received, the transcript request isn't processed.
