How to Make Shell Flowers

Seashells come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Seashells are ideal for making craft projects. Since many seashells have a flower-like appearance naturally, they are particularly suited for making flower crafts. Flower seashell crafts make great gift ideas and can be sold at craft fairs and flea markets as well.

Things You'll Need

  • Seashells
  • Glue
  • Colored beads
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Vase

    • 1

Purchase a variety of seashells. The more you have on hand, the wider variety of flowers you will be able to make. You can purchase seashells in hobby and craft stores in bulk, both in bags of mixed shells and bags with a specific type of shell in them. Keep plenty of smaller shells on hand for detailing your work.

Separate the shells into piles by shape and color so you won't be digging to find the right shell for your flower. This also lets you know ahead of time if you're going to have enough shells for the particular flower you want to create.

    • 3

Place the shell you'll be using for the center of your flower on a flat surface, then choose smaller shells and place them around the center, forming an outline of petals. Arrange the shells to make a flower design you're happy with, then glue the outer shells to the centerpiece clockwise. Overlap the shells as you glue them in place to give the petals a more flower-like appearance.

Add beads, pearls or other faux gems to your seashell flowers to add color, then glue on green pipe cleaners to give your seashell flowers stems. You can finish off the illusion by placing them in a vase.
