How to Service a Poulan Chainsaw
Like any machine, your Poulan chain saw needs to be serviced regularly to keep it in top condition. A complete service should be performed every year before you begin using the saw. Maintenance is a simple prospect that will extend the life of your saw and take up half of a cold winter day. Running the saw properly will also keep you safer when felling a tree or making firewood for the upcoming winter. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Make sure the on/stop switch is in the stop position before performing any maintenance.
-
2
Take off the cylinder cover and disconnect the spark plug. This is as simple as removing the spark plug boot from the top of the plug.
-
-
3
Look for worn, damaged or loose parts and fasteners.
-
4
Check the chain and guide bar. The chain should make wood chips, not sawdust. Clean all the sawdust from the bar rails, sprocket hole and oil holes. If the rail top is uneven, use a flat file to square the edges.
-
5
Use a damp cloth with a mild soap to clean the entire unit.
-
6
Inspect and clean the air filter and spark arresting screen. Use hot soapy water to clean the air filter and a wire brush for the spark screen.
-
7
Change the spark plug. You'll need a 3/4-inch socket for this.
-
8
Put everything back together.
