How to Make Magnetic Bookmarks
Bookmarks are necessary innovations for marking pages in books so that you can easily return to the book at a later time. Of course, you could use a piece of scrap paper, but especially if you love to read, you might want something more aesthetically pleasing. There are many kinds of bookmarks, including laminated ones, tasseled ones and even magnetic ones. Magnetic bookmarks can be expensive to buy, but you can make them at home with some basic craft supplies.

1
Determine how long you want your bookmark to be; some people prefer a bookmark that simply fits inside the book, and others like a bookmark that hangs outside the bottom of the book.
-
2
Measure a length of 1-inch-wide ribbon that is twice the length you want your bookmark to be; you will fold the ribbon in half to allow for the magnet strips. Cut the ribbon at the appropriate measurement.

3
Fold the length of ribbon in half, and position an adhesive magnet strip on the inside of each half of the folded ribbon, with the magnet sides of the strips facing each other and pressed to the top of the fold in the ribbon.
-
4
Pull off the adhesive backing of each magnet, and press the ribbon firmly against the adhesive to stick the magnets to the inside of the ribbon.
-
5
To mark your place, put one side of the ribbon on the back of a page and the other half on the front, so that the magnets snap together through the page.

Tips & Warnings
Trim the adhesive magnet strips if necessary, so that they cannot be seen from the outside of the ribbon.
Glue glitter onto the ribbon of your magnetic bookmark and seal by spraying with clear lacquer for a more customized magnetic bookmark.
Be careful to keep the ribbon straight as you stick it to the adhesive of the magnet, because once the magnet is stuck to the ribbon, it is difficult or impossible to move.
