Overactive sebaceous glands can create many blackheads and spots on a teenager's face that are not always easy to remove. Many teens will try to wash the blackheads away, causing their skin to dry out, produce even more unnecessary sebum and ultimately make their breakouts worse. The best way to control the blackheads and spots on your face are to maintain a washing routine and to make sure you are washing properly.
Things You'll Need
- Face scrub formulated for acne
- Oil-free face wash
- Oil-free moisturizer
- Acne spot treatment
- Clean towel
How to Remove Teenage Blackheads and Spots
Use a face scrub that is specially formulated for acne and blackheads once a week. Your daily routine should consist of washing with a mild facial cleanser twice a day, so when you use the scrub simply substitute it in for one of your daily washes. Use your fingertips to gently massage the scrub in small circular motions around the problem areas of your face before rinsing well with warm water.
Wash your face twice a day with a mild, oil-free face wash. It's equally important to wash your face at night as it is in the morning to make sure that you are removing all excess oil, dirt and makeup. Massage the cleanser all over your face and neck for 30 seconds, making sure that you are washing all areas of your face. Rinse your face with warm water for another 30 seconds to make sure that you are washing away all excess face wash. Excess face wash can dry into a residue and cause build up if left behind. Pat (not rub) your face dry with a clean towel.
Rub a small amount of oil-free moisturizer over your skin if you are prone to dry or combination skin. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of any acne spot treatment onto your palm. Use your finger to distribute the spot treatment over all spots and problem areas, patting the cream into the skin rather than rubbing it. Do not touch, pick, or squeeze your skin during any time of the day- you will only sabotage your efforts and cause more breakouts.
