How to Stimulate Collagen and Elastin
It is quite rare to find a person who does not want to maintain ageless, wrinkle-free skin. Youthful features are prized in modern society and the market is flooded with products and treatments all promising to turn back the clock and return your skin to its former state. Collagen and elastin are major ingredients in keeping the face looking young, but as people get older, the collagen and elastin in their face decreases.

1
Get hyaluronic acid injections. According to an article published in the February edition of Archives of Dermatology, hyaluronic acid injections caused type 1 collagen production. Based upon the study's findings, the injections boosted collagen production by stopping the deterioration of collagen, stimulating growth, and expanding the cells that secrete collagen.

Apply vitamin C topically. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is effective at boosting skin's collagen, thereby reducing wrinkles and fine lines. It also protects the skin against ultraviolet damage (a big contributor to aging). Unfortunately, most over-the-counter topical vitamin C products are not effective, likely because vitamin C becomes inactive when exposed to air, light, and heat. Therefore, products containing vitamin C should be sealed tightly and stored in a cool, dark place.

Try a retinoid cream. While a prescription retinoid treatment is best, there are some over-the-counter products that work relatively well. Retinoid helps to prevent the loss of collagen caused by sunlight exposure.

Talk to your dermatologist about laser treatments or acid peels. Genesis and Medlite lasers stimulate collagen in the skin, while glycolic acid peels, similarly, boost collagen production and help skin maintain a healthy appearance. These procedures also increase elastin as well, although whether the benefits are long-term is unknown.
