How to Assemble an LCD TV Tilting Wall Mount

Mounting a LCD TV to a wall is an easy and affordable way to save space in your home. Sometimes, however, the best place to mount your TV on your wall doesn't provide the best viewing angles. But by using a wall mount that tilts, you can cut down on some of those bad angles without adding a lot of additional time or effort to the mounting process.

Things You'll Need

  • Tilting wall mount with supplied hardware

Instructions

  1. Installing the Wall Plate

    • 1

Make a pencil mark on your wall at the height that you want to mount your TV.

    • 2

Using the stud sensor, find two adjacent studs that are at least 12 inches apart and mark the locations of those studs.

    • 3

Drill 2.5-inch deep holes into each stud, making sure the holes are level.

    • 4

Put the flat side of the wall plate against the wall, lining up the pre-drilled holes in the top slots of the mount with the holes you just drilled. TV swivel wall mounts are available at most retail stores that sell flat screen TVs. Necessary mounting hardware is included in the kits.

    • 5

Make pencil marks where your bottom holes will be through the holes in the slots at the bottom of the wall plate. The lines should be directly below the holes you already drilled.

    • 6

Drill 2.5-inch deep holes into the marks.

    • 7

Place the flat side of the wall plate against your wall. Run the supplied 2.5-inch lag bolts through the supplied lag bolt washers and the holes in the wall plate into the holes you drilled into the wall studs.

    • 8

Use the socket wrench to secure the bolts into the studs.

    Connecting the TV

    • 9

Find the hardware for your TV by threading bolts into the holes on the TV by hand. Flat screen TVs come with threaded nuts built into the sets. Wall mounts work with most brands of TVs, so they come with a variety of hardware. Only the correct hardware for your TV will work, however.

    • 10

Lean the TV against the wall and line up the monitor brackets -- the long metal pieces -- the holes in the back of your TV, making sure the end of the bracket with the small holes is at the bottom of your TV.

    • 11

Run the bolts for your TV through their corresponding lock washer and one of the larger washers and the monitor brackets into the mounting holes on the back of your TV. Use the Phillips screwdriver to tighten the bolts.

    • 12

Line-up one of the supplied gussets to the outside of the mounting bracket and one on the inside of the mounting bracket. Run one of the supplied carriage bolts through the gusset and mounting bracket into one of the gusset nuts. Repeat the process for the other mounting bracket. Adding the gussets allows your TV to be tilted, rather than flat against the wall.

    • 13

Hang the monitor brackets over the top of the wall plate, slowly lowering the TV down so it rotates into place under the bottom of the wall plate. Slide the safety bar into the bottom of the wall plate, below the monitor brackets, which have notches cut into them to allow the bar to be slid into place.
