How to Treat a Fungus Infection on Your Finger
Fungal infections are common on the hands and feet, particularly under and around the nails, and can cause symptoms such as red, swollen and flaky skin with intense itching. These infections, although usually not serious, often require prolonged treatment with topical and oral medications.

1
Clean the affected area with soap and water; pat dry gently to avoid irritating the infected finger.

2
Apply a small amount of topical, over-the-counter antifungal cream like terbinafine (Lamisil) or ketoconazole (e.g., Nizoral). This treatment should be applied twice daily.

If the symptoms do not resolve within a week of using over-the-counter medications, consult a doctor for prescription products. Prescriptions include stronger versions of topical creams and oral medications (e.g., Lamisil tablets) to take once daily. Oral treatment may be necessary for up to four months to resolve symptoms and completely remove the fungus from the affected area.
