How to Repair a Vinyl Air Mattress

Vinyl air mattresses come in handy in many different situations, such as camping in the wilderness or accommodating houseguests, but the air mattresses can become worn and tear quite easily. Vinyl is a highly flexible material, and when it is thin, it is subject to ripping and tearing with regular use. Instructions

    • 1

Locate the rip or hole in the vinyl air mattress. To find small holes, wet the vinyl with water and pump air into the mattress. The spot that starts to bubble will be the location of the hole or tear.

    • 2

Circle the area with a highly visible marker (black or white or red) and then dry off the mattress. Be sure that the area to be patched is completely dry.

    • 3

Place the manufacturers repair patch directly onto the tear. Make sure you cover the tear completely and then smooth over the area with your hand, making certain the patch has adhered to the material securely.

For added security, cover the patched area with a small piece of duct tape. This will reinforce the patch and prevent any air leakage.
