How to Curl Synthetic Hair With Heat

Wearing synthetic hair weaves or synthetic wigs is an inexpensive alternative to wearing 100 percent human hair. However, with the low price also comes limitations on how you can or cannot style the hair. This is because the synthetic hair is basically plastic fibers that are made to look like real hair. If you want to curl your synthetic hair, you risk melting the plastic strands. To curl your hair with a curling iron, you must check the label on the hair packaging to ensure that it is made of heat-resistant fiber. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. With a Curling Iron

    • 1

Ensure that the synthetic hair is made of 100% Kanekalon, which is a synthetic fiber that can handle low heat.

    • 2

Set the temperature of your curling iron to the lowest possible setting. Avoid using curling irons that are heated on top of a stove or curling iron plate since the heat from those sources will cause the curling iron to become hotter than what the synthetic fibers can withstand.

    • 3

Use hair clips to clip your hair into small sections.

    • 4

Apply a small amount of spritz to the section of hair you desire to curl. Begin curling your synthetic hair in the style you desire. Gradually remove the remaining hair clips to curl all the sections of your hair.

    • 5

Comb your curls out with a wide toothed comb or use your fingers to fluff out the curls. Using a small toothed comb or brush will only make the curls disappear.

    With Hair Rollers

    • 6

Wash or wet your synthetic hair. Comb through the hair with a wide toothed comb to remove all tangles.

    • 7

Part a small section of your synthetic hair. Spray the small section with a setting lotion or hair spritz.

    • 8

Place hair roller paper on a hair roller and roll the small section of hair into the roller. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until all of the hair has been rolled.

    • 9

Turn your hair dryer to the lowest heat setting. Sit underneath the hair dryer for about 45 minutes or until your hair is completely dry. If using a hand held blow dryer, hold the dryer 4-6 inches away from the synthetic hair.

    • 10

Remove the rollers. Style your synthetic hair using a wide toothed comb or your fingers. Using a small toothed comb or brush will only make the curls disappear.
