How to Make a Kid-Friendly Online Game
Making a kid-friendly online game might seem difficult, considering the huge amount of adult content on the Web. However, parents can find and create online games by seeking the websites of educational and child-related organizations they trust.

Direct your browser to sesamestreet.org and click on the Games icon to sample games for children under seven years old. (Skip to step 4 to create games for older children).
Make a game out of a good habit by clicking the Brushing Teeth game's icon. Let your child direct Elmo to brush his teeth by clicking and moving the mouse.

Click the Art menu item on the Games page of sesamestreet.org to move to the web pages for coloring games. Search the various characters and scenes to color from the scrolling list, letting the child choose her favorites. Print the uncolored page for offline coloring.

Create a collection of games tailored to your child's needs clicking the Browse All Games button, which is on the sesamestreet.org/games page. Using the drop-down lists under the Browse Games heading, choose the subject (e.g., Self Confidence, Feelings, Thinking Skills), the Themes (e.g. Musical Instruments, Daily Routines), and the Characters (e.g. Big Bird, Elmo) that you want for your child.

Surf to HighlightsKids.com to create games for kids aged 7 to 10. Make a game using hidden images by clicking the Hidden Pictures menu item. On the page that follows, choose the Play! icon to surf to image-finding games for playing online. Click the Print! icon to go to printable pictures for offline play.

Click the Fun Finder page from the Highlightskids.com home page to surf to a categorized, detailed listing of games. To create games or let your child create his own games, select the Make a Robot and Picture Maker links. Surf to the National Gallery of Art's (NGA) Kids Zone (http://www.nga.gov/kids/). Create collages on each of the pages linked to this page (e.g. Collage Machine, Mobile, Pixelface).

To create a custom Jungle, click the Jungle link on the NGA Kids home page from step 6. Click icons on the palette on the right to place them on the canvas. Click and drag items on the canvas to position them, and click the icons in the lower right corner of the screen to flip, rotate, and size the icons.
