How to Design Your Own Engagement Party Invitation

Instructions

    • 1

Make one 2 x 3-inch reprint of a favorite photo for each invitation you plan to create.

    • 2

Affix the photo to the right side of a 4-inch-square piece of white cardstock with double-stick tape, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the top, bottom and right side of the photo.

    • 3

Use 1-inch-tall alphabet rubber stamps and silver stamping ink to add a simple word or phrase to the empty space on the left side of the white cardstock. Stamp a sentiment such as "Engaged!" or "She Said Yes!" going vertically from bottom to top so that the letters are facing the photo.

    • 4

Create the blank card base by using a ruler to measure and a pencil to mark a 5 x 10-inch piece of silver cardstock. Cut the rectangle out with a paper trimmer, and fold it in half to make a 5-inch-square blank card.

    • 5

Attach the embellished block of white cardstock to the center of the silver card base with double-stick tape. Make a simple, square border around the white cardstock by using a ruler and black marker to draw a line all the way around the square, 1/2 inch away from the sides.

    • 6

Print the pertinent details about the engagement festivities on a 4-inch-square piece of white cardstock. Print "Celebrate Our Engagement" across the top in bold type, and then list the time, date, location and RSVP contact information below it in regular type. Affix the cardstock inside the silver card with double-stick tape.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of using white cardstock to mat the photo and silver cardstock to create the card base, choose shades for the engagement invitation that coordinate with the picture or the decorations you plan to use at the party.

  • If you'd rather not include a photo on the invitation, simply affix a cluster of paper flowers or a row of heart stickers to the white cardstock instead.

  • When you're running over budget for your engagement event and need to cut costs on the invitations, send free email invitations to friends and family members on your guest list instead. Use an Internet service like Evite.com to choose an engagement-related template, enter the party information in the form and input the guests' email addresses for the site to send the free invitations.

  • As a sentimental touch, print the details of the proposal on a 4-inch-square piece of pink, light blue or white vellum paper, and place the story inside the engagement party invitation.
