How to Make Snapper Lawn Mower Height Adjustments

Snapper has been in the lawn mower business for decades. They make many models and types of mowers, each different in the way height adjustments are made. Riding mowers are the easiest, requiring only the lifting of a lever to change cutting heights. Large walk-behind models, (36-inch deck and larger) however, must be adjusted differently. It's not a difficult task to achieve but may take a bit of strength and a willingness to get your hands dirty. No tools are necessary when making height adjustments to a Snapper walk-behind mower. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the caster wheel assembly of the two front tires of your mower, and notice the positioning of the four spacers on each caster shaft.

    • 2

Remove the retainer pin from the top of the caster shaft.

    • 3

Holding the caster support (the sloped part of the assembly which attaches to the deck), lift upwards.

    • 4

If raising the cutting height, add the desired number of spacers to the caster shaft below the caster support tube.

    • 5

If decreasing the cutting height, remove the spacers from below the support tube, and place them on the caster shaft above the support tube.

    • 6

Remove or add spacers by rotating the slots so they align with the flat area of the caster shaft. Slide the spacers off or onto the shaft.

Tips & Warnings

  • If lifting the caster support is difficult, jack the front end of the mower up about six inches, or dangle the wheel over the edge of a ramp.

  • Follow instructions and diagrams provided in your user's manual.

  • Never make height adjustments with the mower running.
