How to Cleanse an Apartment

Moving can be an exciting time, but when you move into an apartment, this is a new place for you, not a new space in general. Those who believe that energy, either positive or negative, can remain in a space after the previous occupants leave might want to cleanse the apartment. This will give the space a neutral energy that allows you to make it all your own, removing any blocks that might exist because of emotional or traumatic energies left behind. Just as you don't want previous tenants' dirt, you don't want their dirty energy. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Open the front door and leave it open. This gives the negative energy a place to exit.

    • 2

Walk into your apartment and position yourself in the room farthest from the front door. Start at the wall farthest from the front door.

    • 3

Light the match, then sage stick. A sage stick is made of dried sage leaves bound into a stick. You can purchase sticks from a metaphysical store, herb shop or Chinese herbalist. Allow the stick to smolder with smoke.

    • 4

Walk the room, allowing the sage smoke to cover as many of the corners as possible. Go into closets, and move the bundle around windows, under beds and behind furniture if there is any. Hold it up high toward the ceiling and cover as much of the space as possible by exposing the sage smoke to it.

    • 5

Repeat Step 5 for every room.

    • 6

Walk to the front door and hold the sage. Say the following blessing found at menya.com: "Anything not here for the highest and best good of those living here, be gone. You are not wanted or welcome here. This home has been cleansed and is blessed."

    • 7

Place the sage bundle in the candle holder outside the front door and allow it to burn itself out.

    • 8

Close the door as the sage burns outside.
