How to Measure the Height of a Tomato Plant

Tomato plants are great for color in the yard and for some fresh vegetables in your food. They can vary in size of the stem and shape of the tomato. To increase the size of the stem always stake the plant, this will encourage the growth of the height of the plant. To encourage the size of the tomato, prune the plant early in the growing season. Some tomato plants can grow to 6 feet tall. Measuring your plants will keep you informed on how much they grow and how quickly.   • 1 large stake
  • 4 pieces of string
  • Tape measure
  • Journal

Instructions

      Pierce the soil right next to the tomato plant with the stake.

      Tie the tomato stem in four places (the bottom near the soil, the top of the plant and two different areas in the middle of the plant) so the tomato plant stands perfectly upright to get the best measurement.

      Start the measurement at the bottom of the plant with the tape measure resting on top of the soil.

      Hold the tape measure down with your foot, and pull the tape measure up.

      Stop at the very top of the tomato plant. Record the measurement in your tomato journal.
