How to Make a Seashell Fountain

Seashell fountains are decorative accents for any beach-inspired room décor. You can make a simple seashell fountain with one large conch shell or with a mountain of shells for added dimension. Making a seashell fountain with shells you've collected over the years is a creative way to display your discoveries. You can also find seashells for this project at craft stores. Small fountain pumps are available from online retailers and from garden centers.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover one face of four half-bricks with seashells, using waterproof adhesive to hold the seashells in place. Allow the adhesive to dry. Make sure that the seashells do not extend past one of the edges of the brick, so the brick can sit flush against bottom of the ceramic bowl.

    • 2

Drill a hole in the bottom center of a large ceramic bowl. Your bowl may be only 3 to 4 inches deep, or you can select a deeper design. You need a carbide drill bit to drill through ceramic; do not try to make the hole with a regular drill bit.

    • 3

Place the fountain pump inside the bowl. Feed the electrical cord through the hole in the ceramic bowl. Seal around the hole and the cord with silicone so that the bowl is water-tight. Allow the silicone to dry.

    • 4

Arrange the four half-bricks around the fountain pump with the seashells facing outward. Fill in the crevices between the bricks with more seashells. Attach them with glue to the bricks and to the other seashells with waterproof adhesive.

    • 5

Attach the fountain head to the fountain pump and extend it as high as you'd like the fountain to flow.

    • 6

Attach seashells to the open edges of the bricks with waterproof adhesive. Create a stack of seashells all around the fountain head, gluing them in place with waterproof adhesive. The effect you are creating is one of a seashell pile. Top the pile with a large shell that is not glued on.

    • 7

Fill the bowl with water and turn on the pump.
