Instructions

    • 1

Glue the end of the 1/2-inch-wide ribbon to the back left side of the open barrette face. Wrap the ribbon around the entire length of the barrette face to cover the metal, keeping the wrapping flat and smooth. Cut the ribbon as needed and glue the end to the back right side of the barrette face. Let dry.

    • 2

Place a large, white silk rose on a flat surface. Make sure the rose shape is open and round, not closed like a rosebud. Cut the stem from the rose.

    • 3

Put a dab of glue on the back of a large, clear flat back rhinestone and secure the rhinestone to the middle of the open rose. Dab glue to the back of five, small, clear flat back rhinestones. Arrange the small rhinestones around the large rhinestone to create a glittering, circular center to the rose. Let dry.

    • 4

Put a dab of glue on the back of a small flat back rhinestone and secure it at the tip of a petal. Repeat the process to decorate each petal on the rose. Let dry.

    • 5

Dab some glue to the back of the rose and secure it to the middle of the ribbon-covered barrette face. Let dry.

    • 6

Repeat the process to create as many bridal hair pieces as needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you buy flat back rhinestones to decorate your bridal hair pieces. These gems look like flat circles with a rhinestone front and metal back. They are made specifically for gluing to craft projects. Regular rhinestone gems are round like beads and usually made for threading, not gluing.

  • The type headpiece you choose will determine the type of veil you can wear, so make sure to match the two items properly. For example, a headband will look odd if the veil attaches at the nape of the neck. Tiaras and headbands need veils that attach high on the head. Barrettes, clips, combs and caps need veils that attach anywhere from the middle to lower part of the head.

  • Although using a glue gun creates the most secure and lasting bridal hair pieces, there is a chance the glue will melt if used in extremely hot conditions. For example, if the wedding is taking place outdoors during a 100-degree afternoon, it may be better to use superglue instead of a hot glue gun.

  • Do not use plastic hair pieces to create a bridal hair piece. Plastic barrettes, headbands, combs, pins and clips are much too weak to guarantee a secure style, especially if a veil is attached. Always use metal or other sturdy materials, such as carved wooden combs.
