How to Use Chi on Black Hair

Various beauty tools are available for styling African-American hair. To achieve a straight or curled style, tools utilizing a heated element can be used. Heated styling tools relax or straighten any natural curl in the hair without the use of chemicals for greater styling options. For chemically treated hair, heated styling tools create a smooth and polished look during the styling process. For naturally curly or chemically treated African-American hair, the Chi flat iron is a popular tool for creating a straight hair style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Your hair should be thoroughly dried before using the Chi flat iron. Taking a small-tooth comb, part your hair into four sections by first starting at the front of the scalp and parting down the middle of the scalp to the base of the neck, then parting from ear to ear across the crown or top of the head. Pin each section with a hair clip.

One section at time, take small sections within the main section and clamp the Chi flat iron around the smaller section of hair. Hold the Chi in place, then move the Chi down the section away from the head. Be careful not to begin using the Chi too close to the scalp line--it may be hot. For sections at the front of the head, it is recommended the smaller sections begin at the ear. For sections at the back of the head, it is recommended smaller sections begin at the nape or bottom of the neck.

Continue the process of using the Chi flat iron on smaller sections within the four main sections until the entire head has been processed. Using a small-tooth or wide-tooth comb or brush, eliminate the parted sections. Using styling products or the Chi flat iron, continue to style hair to your desired look. Hair will be straight but able to curl using a curling iron or setting hair on rollers for a fuller look.
