How to Fill in Eye Wrinkles & Bags With Restylane

Restylane is a trademarked injectable medication that dermatologists and plastic surgeons use to fill wrinkles and folds in the skin. The FDA approved Restylane in 2003. Restylane injections can smooth out wrinkles at the corners of the eye in addition to plumping up the tear trough area that creates the under eye bag. Does this Spark an idea?

    • 1

Understand the difference between Restylane and other injectable wrinkle fillers. Restylane fills your wrinkles with a non-animal-based protein called hyaluronic acid. Other derma fillers may use an animal-based protein that can cause an allergic reaction whereas Restylane rarely causes allergic reactions. Restylane fills and plumps up the skin; it does not paralyze the muscles under the skin as may other popular injectables.

Find a qualified doctor to give you Restylane injections. Make sure the doctor you choose has experience in giving Restylane injections and that the office is clean and follows all standards of safety when using syringes. Filling wrinkles is a fairly uncomplicated procedure while filling the tear trough takes some expertise. Make sure your doctor has performed this procedure before.

    • 3

Discuss with your doctor how many injections will be needed to fill the wrinkles around your eye and how many injections are needed to fill the tear trough. In most cases you will need two syringes of Restylane per eye. One syringe will be used to smooth out the wrinkles at the corners of your eye and the other syringe to fill the tear trough under the eye bags.

Before your treatment, do not take any anti-inflammatory medication such as aspirin, Ibuprofen or Naproxen. Avoid taking vitamin E and the herb St. John's wort during the week before your injection.

    • 5

Expect your Restylane procedure to last approximately 30 minutes. Your doctor will apply an antiseptic lotion before using the needle to inject small amounts of the Restylane under the skin. The pain should be minimal. You will notice a difference immediately. You will leave the doctor's office with less eye wrinkles and less visible under eye bags.

    • 6

Schedule another Restylane treatment in about six months for touch up injections as your results will disappear over time.

    • 7

Take care of your skin after the injections. Apply a clean cold washcloth over the injection area to reduce swelling. Stay out of the sun for the next few days.
