Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • E-mail Accounts
  • E-mail Software
  1. Step 1

Review messages from the list to see if there are instructions for unsubscribing. These can usually be found at the beginning or end of the message.

  2. Step 2

Visit the Web site you used to subscribe to the list and look there for instructions for unsubscribing.

  3. Step 3

Send an e-mail to the list administrator. The address will often be in the form majordomo@domain.com, listserv@domain.com, mailbase@domain.com or listproc@domain.com. Type "unsubscribe" and your e-mail address in the body of the message. If this isn't correct, the e-mail list will most likely send you a message with detailed instructions.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should turn off any signatures when sending an unsubscribe e-mail to the list administrator.
  • If it's the volume of e-mail that bothers you, see if you can subscribe to a digest version, which will send you a compendium of the day's messages.
  • Don't send an unsubscribe e-mail to the list itself, or you can expect to be flamed by other users.
