How to Unsubscribe From an E-mail List

So it seemed like a good idea at the time, but now that daily load of e-mail messages is driving you crazy? Unsubscribing from an e-mail list is easy. Stop the madness now!

• E-mail Accounts
• E-mail Software

1. Review messages from the list to see if there are instructions for unsubscribing. These can usually be found at the beginning or end of the message.

2. Visit the Web site you used to subscribe to the list and look there for instructions for unsubscribing.

3. Send an e-mail to the list administrator. The address will often be in the form [e-mail], [e-mail], [e-mail] or [e-mail]. Type "unsubscribe" and your e-mail address in the body of the message. If this isn't correct, the e-mail list will most likely send you a message with detailed instructions.

Tips & Warnings

• You should turn off any signatures when sending an unsubscribe e-mail to the list administrator.
• If it's the volume of e-mail that bothers you, see if you can subscribe to a digest version, which will send you a compendium of the day's messages.
• Don't send an unsubscribe e-mail to the list itself, or you can expect to be flamed by other users.
