How to Make a Roll Up Paint Brush Holder Out of a Pair of Jeans
It's fairly easy to give an old pair of blue jeans a second life by transforming them into something completely different. Instead of tossing those old jeans, cut them up and get creative. Denim fabric is especially durable, which makes it great for bags and other items. If you want a funky holder for some paintbrushes, try making a roll-up paintbrush holder out of a pair of old jeans. You can even decorate it with rhinestones or sequins to give it your own unique touch.
Things You'll Need

1
Collect the paintbrushes you'd like to store in your paintbrush holder. Measure the longest one, and use this measurement to determine the width of the holder. Lay your paintbrushes out on a flat surface, lining them up as if they were in the holder. Leave an inch or two of space between each brush. Measure the length of the lined up brushes and use this measurement to determine the length of your paintbrush holder. Add four inches to both the determined length and width measurements.

2
Use your measurements to cut a rectangular piece of fabric out of the leg of your blue jeans.

3
Hem the edges of the fabric, if you wish, using a thick needle and sturdy thread. This step is optional; if you choose not to hem, the edges will eventually fray a little, creating a bit of fringe along the edges.

4
Cut strips of denim approximately 1 inch wide and 3 to 4 inches long. Cut two strips of denim for every brush. The number of brushes you'd like to hold will determine the number of strips to cut.
-
5
Lay your rectangular piece of denim on a flat surface, and arrange your brushes on top of it, spacing them out evenly.
-
6
Make a chalk mark near the top and bottom ends of each brush handle.
-
7
Sew on your cut out fabric strips according to your chalk marked guidelines. Sew both ends to the denim to create two "loops" that you can slide the handles of your brushes through.
-
8
Cut two long pieces of ribbon. Each ribbon should be about a foot long. Line up the top edges of the ribbon and sew them together to the center top edge of the paintbrush holder. You can then roll up the paintbrush holder and tie the ribbons together around it to hold the roll in place.
-
9
Add decorative touches to your roll-up paintbrush holder if you like. Paint it with fabric paint, or glue on rhinestones or sequins.

Tips & Warnings
If you have extra pieces of ribbon, you can sew them along the edges of the paintbrush holder to create a decorative border.
Sewing denim can be tricky due to the weight of the fabric. If possible, practice a bit on a scrap of denim before starting your project.
