How to String a Lacrosse Goalie Stick
Lacrosse goalies have a difficult job as the last line of defense, and their only real means of preventing goals (as well as initiating breakout passes to start the offense) is their bodies and a properly strung goal stick. Many different types of pockets can be created once you've strung your head.
Things You'll Need
- Goalie mesh re-stringing kit
- Spray paint or clear coat (optional)
- Goalie stick head

1
Open the re-stringing kit and stretch the mesh out with your hands so that it is completely unfolded and flat. Lay your stick flat and lay the mesh over the opening in the head, or crosse. Fold over the mesh that sticks out over the top of the head, taking care to line up the first and third lines of holes with one another. Tie off one of the ends of the string and thread the remainder through the top holes on the head.

2
Re-thread the remainder of the string back through the holes so that you end up at the beginning. Thread the sidewall strings alternately through the mesh (not the head) going from bottom to top to the top sidewall string. Push the string through that hole and tie it off. Do the same for the remaining sidewall string and tie them off through the bottom sidewall string holes.

Use your fist or a lacrosse ball to manually beat a soft spot into the middle of the mesh to create a pocket. A deeper pocket traps the ball more easily, while a shallow pocket allows for better passing. A medium-depth pocket gives allows for a bit of both. Create your pocket to suit your preference.

Thread your shooting strings through the holes three rows underneath the top line and alternate in an over-under pattern, taking care to pull the strings taut in the mesh. Tie them off once you reach the end of the mesh.

Tips & Warnings
Spraying your pocket with spray paint or clear coat will prolong the shape of the pocket and the life of the mesh.
