How to Make a Baby Toque
A simple baby toque made out of knit fabric or polar fleece is comfortable, warm and cozy for babies. New parents can never have enough tiny hats, especially for a winter newborn. Make these easy baby toques for your own baby or to give as a gift. Made in a bigger size, this simple winter hat pattern can work for toddlers. Hand made pom poms or accent fabrics can make your winter toque cuter and give it more personality.

How to Make a Baby Toque
-
1
Seam the short ends, with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, of the fabric together to form a tube for your baby toque. Trim the seam allowances and finger press the seam open on your fleece baby hat.
-
2
Fold up 1 1/4 inches at the bottom end of the knit baby hat. Turn the cuff under 1/4 inch along the edge and topstitch close to the fold.
-
-
3
Turn the hat inside out and stitch across the top of the hat. Trim the seam allowances neatly.
-
4
Use a hand sewing needle and thread to bring the two corners together. Stitch snugly.
-
5
Cut a 3 inch wide strip of fleece or knit fabric approximately 18 inches long. Make 1 1/4 inch deep cuts into the fabric at regular intervals, creating fringe on each side of a 1/2 inch center panel. Roll snugly, then wrap thread around the center of your pom pom. Hand stitch into place on your hat.
