Step 1
Evaluate and document your qualifications. Use your resume to highlight the subject matter specific experience, online teaching experience and professional certifications. Most university level online teaching positions require at least one year of online instruction. Trade schools, tutoring and test preparation services generally require less subject matter and online experience than higher education institutions.
-
Step 2
Identify online teaching institutions and traditional institutions with some online programs. There are schools that provide only online instructions; while some of the major universities or trade schools offer both in school classes and online courses/degrees. Use professional recruiters or apply directly to some of these institutions.
-
Step 3
Use online job banks to find a teaching job. Online teaching positions are often listed on internet job banks. Do a search for "online teachers jobs", "online instructors" or for specific subjects such as "computers online instructor", "math online instructor" etc. to find teaching directories.
-
Step 4
Look for online tutoring positions. Individuals and some schools look for teachers to fill tutoring positions. These positions are in all types of subjects; however high school and entry level college subjects are usually in high demand. Online tutoring positions are advertised in libraries, newspapers and online.

Step 5
Consider obtaining an online teaching certification. This certification may be very valuable for individuals desiring to teach online, but lack the online teaching experience. Online certification course works expose the future online teacher to internet technologies, information systems and telecommunications. Improving these skills increases the chances of securing an online teaching job.
