Tomato knives are specially designed to break through the tough outer skin and slide cleanly into the soft flesh of the tomato. Instructions

    • 1

Rinse the tomato in cold running water and remove any stickers on the skin.

    • 2

Use the tomato knife to slice off the top of the tomato and discard the stem.

    • 3

Set the tomato on a cutting board on its flattest side. Hold it securely in place with your non-knife hand. Bend the tips of your fingers in towards your palm to keep them from getting cut.

    • 4

Position the tomato knife on the skin of the tomato's backside at your desired thickness. Press gently as you pull the knife toward you.

    • 5

Move the knife over to an equal width from your last slice and continue smoothly drawing the blade of the knife toward you as you press down.

    • 6

Use the back of the knife's blade to slide your tomato slices onto a plate.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some tomato knives have special features like fork tines on the end and divots in the steel to help release the newly cut slice. Choose a tomato knife with the features that will make it a valued tool in your kitchen arsenal.
