Home Remedies
-
1
Wet the stained skin with warm water. Do not rub the dye with a dry finger. Even if a stain has been on the skin for a while it can still be mostly removed.
-
2
Rub toothpaste into the area. Toothpaste or baking soda can be scrubbed into the area to help absorb the dye. Mix into dishwasher detergent first to boost effectiveness.
-
-
3
Dab the area with a cotton swab that has been dipped into nail polish remover if toothpaste and baking soda are not effective on tough or dark stains. Rubbing alcohol may also be used with similar results.
-
4
Apply shampoo to the affected skin and rinse with hot water.
-
5
Repeat the process until the dye has faded completely. Baby oil is also useful for more mild stains (not for black dye).
Chemical Options
-
6
Use hydrogen peroxide on the area, but be careful as it will also fade the hair color, both dyed and natural.
-
7
Chlorine bleach will also remove the dye, but it harsh on the skin. It should be applied as any of the other substances, with a cotton swab or soft cloth.
-
8
Purchase hair dye remover from a beauty supply store and follow the directions carefully. A more expensive option, but it does the job it was designed to perform.
