How to Install a Short Ram Air Intake on a Honda
The easiest way to gain horsepower in your vehicle is to increase the amount of air coming into or going out of the engine, There are lots of ways to do this, but one popular option is to add an air intake. There are two popular types of intakes: cold-air and short ram air. Cold air will get you more horsepower, but if you're OK with just a little bit of extra power and are more interested in the showy effects of an intake under the hood, then a short ram air will work just fine. Better yet, they're easy to install. In this case, the project vehicle is a 1998 Honda Civic DX, but the process is similar for other vehicles as well.

1
Pop the hood of the car and locate the stock intake tubing. This is a black, plastic tubing that runs from the throttle body on the back of the engine to the air filter, mounted on the fenderwell. Unscrew and remove all of the plastic tubing using a flat-head screwdriver to disconnect the hose clamps, and a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set to unbolt the air filter from the fender.

2
Insert the silicone coupler that comes with the short ram air kit onto the end of the ram air intake tube using a flathead screwdriver and a hose clamp provided with the kit. Then, clamp the other end onto the throttle body, using a flathead screwdriver and a hose clamp.

3
Bolt the tab that comes off of the short ram air intake tube onto the fenderwell using the bolt and bushing provided in the kit and a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. This is going to stabilize the intake tube, but allow it to flex enough that it doesn't break when the engine torques.

4
Slide the air filter onto the end of the intake tube and clamp it onto the tube using a hose clamp provided with the kit and a flat-head screwdriver. Close the hood.
