How to Download Chipset Drivers

Chipset drivers are required by your motherboard and need to be kept up to date to prevent various system errors. Unfortunately, the chipset drivers are not set to download and update themselves automatically, unlike so many other aspects of the PC. You must download and update the chipset drivers yourself, though the process is not particularly difficult. The only hard part can be identifying which driver manufacturer is used in your PC.

Things You'll Need

• AIDA32 diagnostic software
• Internet connection

Instructions

1. Download the free utility AIDA32 (see Resources) and install it.

2. Run the diagnostic and note which manufacturer is listed under "Chipset."

3. Go to either the AMD or Intel website (see Resources). Scroll down until you see your operating system and click "Download."

4. Install the chipset drivers. Note that your PC will restart after the installation is complete.
