How to Request Workplace Accommodations for a Temporary Medical Condition
An employer can accommodate an injury to keep an employee performing their work responsibilities without serious pain. Work with your company to find out what it can agree to that is good for both the business and your work enterprise. After considering the fair options, make a request for a reasonable change to the workplace or work.

1
Request a meeting to discuss the employer's settled arrangements for employees who can perform only certain work responsibilities. They might have an arrangement for your condition, such as sit-down work or telecommuting.
-
2
If the employer does not have an arrangement for your disability, request an accommodation from the employer. In a letter written to your employer, request those changes to work areas, equipment and tools that will enable you to perform the work you were hired for. The same duties are not necessary, but do request work that suits your abilities. Keep the changes within the cost limits the company has for doing good business. Make sure any physical barriers or unworkable time demands change.
-
-
3
Respond to any requests for information on your medical condition and work needs from the employer. The employer needs a description of the medical condition and the limitation on your physical or mental ability to perform the work, with a medical professional's authoritative acceptance of any documents.
-
4
Review any proposals, taking time to understand their justifications and explanations on business needs. The employer takes into consideration the medical condition and work needs to plan a change that suits their business.
-
5
Settle the options you can work with. Not every proposal enables you to perform your work. Decide the options that keep you productive and in good health. Choose the option that best fits your work plans for the business.
-
6
Request the chosen change. Write a letter requesting the change. Briefly explain your new work in the altered work arrangement.
-
7
Agree to an offer by the employer. When the employer approves of a change and sends you an acceptable offer, accept in a letter.
