1
Make a design or pattern on an empty tin can using a pencil. For example, you can make a heart or even just lines. Pour water into the can and freeze.
-
2
After the water is frozen, take a nail and hammer to perforate holes following the outline of the design. Be sure not to cut out an entire section. For example, if making a heart design, hammer in a hole every other centimeter or so to make perforations resembling a heart.
Hammer in holes on the opposite sides of the top portion of the can. The holes on top are optional for hanging purposes.

3
Place a small candle into the can and light it. When lit at night, the candle will illuminate through the holes, displaying the design. The small tin lanterns can be hung around the trees or lined on a pathway to add an enchanted and homey element to your garden.

Tips & Warnings
The size of the lantern depends on which can is selected. The intricacies of the design are also mutable depending on the nail. For more detailed designs, use a thin nail; for bolder designs, use thick nails.
When working with tin cans, hammer and nails, be sure to take precautions and wear gloves to protect hands. Always be careful when working with open flames and be aware of placement to prevent fires.
