How to Test Body PH

Foods and drinks have different levels of acidity, and balancing your acid levels can be an important aspect of bodily health. For example, excess acidity in your body can prevent bones from rebuilding and strengthening. Determining the pH level of your body is the first step toward maintaining proper acidity.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit a reputable Internet site that sells pH strips, such as amazon.com or scientificsonline.com. The strips usually aren't available at pharmaceutical stores.

    • 2

Do not eat, drink or brush your teeth for 30 minutes to two hours prior to testing.

    • 3

Swallow several times to ensure clean saliva. Spit some of your saliva into a spoon.

    • 4

Tear off a roughly inch-long strip of pH paper and immerse it in the saliva. Then compare your piece of pH paper to the color chart that came with the pH strips.

    • 5

A pH level of 0 is the most acidic level possible, while a pH level of 14 is the most alkaline level possible. A neutral level would be around 7, which falls right between the two pH extremes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not place the pH strip on your tongue to determine your pH levels. There are chemicals in the paper that could harm you.
