How to Make a Marbled Bubble in GIMP
Although raster graphics programs are most often used to modify or edit photographs, they can also be used to create amazing graphics entirely within the program. For instance, if you wanted to create a bubble or sphere shape with a marbled surface on it, you could use a program like Photoshop to create it. But if you don't have Photoshop, the freeware program GIMP can also be used to create this effect, and it is even easier to do than in Photoshop.

1
Download and install GIMP from GIMP.org. After it is installed, a GIMP shortcut will appear on your desktop. Select "File" and click "New." In the sizing dialog that now opens, make the pixel width and height whatever you need for your project, keeping in mind that raster type images don't enlarge well. Click "OK."

2
Go to the "Layers" panel and click on the "New Layer" icon at the bottom. Select the new layer you just created from the listed layers.

Click on the "Ellipse Select" tool in the toolbar. Hold down the "Shift" key and draw out an ellipse on the canvas. Now select the "Paint Bucket" tool. In the options panel below the toolbar, change the "Fill Type" to "Pattern." Click on the displayed pattern, and from the patterns shown, select the "Marble 1" texture. Use the "Paint Bucket" tool to fill the selection with the pattern.

Select "Filter" from the menu, then "Distort" and "Lens Distort." In the dialog that pops up, raise the "Main" slider to 100 and click "OK."

Select "Filter" from the menu, then "Light and Shadow" and "Lighting Effects." In the dialog that pops up, click on the "Light" tab. Change the "Type" to "Directional" and use the preview to adjust the angle and position of the light to your liking. It is best to have it a bit off to the side rather than directly in front. Change the color to a very light orange. Finally, reduce to intensity to about 50 to 60. Click "OK."
