How to Adjust Vertical Blind

Vertical blinds that have been installed in a window or in a sliding glass door may be too long or have become twisted, requiring adjustment of the blinds. Blinds that are too long will need to be cut or trimmed to the required length. A twisted panel will need to be straightened for the blind to work properly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Shorten Panels

    • 1

Determine how much of the blind you need to trim off by measuring form the floor with a tape measure.

    • 2

Remove the panels from the blind. Push up on the end panel and then slide to the side to remove it from the hook.

    • 3

Place a panel from the blinds on a flat surface and mark where it will need to be cut using a tape measure and a pencil.

    • 4

Cut along the mark with a pair of scissors or use a utility knife.

    • 5

Place the cut piece over an uncut blind so that the top ends are even.

    • 6

Make a mark on the uncut blind with a pencil by following the cut made on the top blind.

    • 7

Repeat the previous step and mark all of the remaining panels.

    • 8

Cut along the mark on the remaining panels with the scissors or utility knife to make them all the same length.

    • 9

Replace the panels on the hooks to complete the project.

    Twisted Panel

    • 10

Turn the blinds with the handle to open and close the panels to see if the twisted panel will correct itself.

    • 11

Manually adjust the panel by accessing the stem that holds the panel in the railing. Turn it to the left or right so the panel faces the right direction.

    • 12

Open and close the panels to verify that the panel is no longer twisted.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vertical blinds that are made of plastic may need to be cut with a miter saw.

  • Cutting a panel to the wrong length will make it uneven with the other panels and unusable.
