How to Iron on Karate Patches

When someone earns an achievement, they want to display their hard work and diligence in some way. Iron-on patches are a great way to display achievements in karate class, and they take just a few minutes to put on. Using just a few simple household items, you can avoid the hassle of sewing by ironing on your patches every time.

      Set up your ironing board and set the heat on your household iron to cotton or high heat.

      Place the shirt or karate uniform down flat on the board and put a pillowcase over the are where the patch is going to hang. Press the hot iron down on the pillowcase (and karate uniform) for about eight seconds to heat up the area where the patch will hang.

      Put the patch on the heated area of the uniform, then put the pillowcase atop the patch. Push down on the pillowcase (and patch) with the iron for another 10 seconds.

      Carefully take the iron and pillowcase off the patch and uniform. Allow the patch and uniform to cool off before picking it up (usually about an hour). The patch should be completely fastened to the uniform.

Tips & Warnings

  • If patch does not appear to be fastened tightly, hold the iron down for another eight seconds.

  • Do not allow children to handle a hot iron.
