How to Make Cloth Diaper Cakes

A diaper cake is essentially diapers -- either cloth or disposable -- that are rolled and stacked to look like a tiered cake. A diaper cake is a fun way to make a baby shower unique, and can serve double duty as both a centerpiece decoration and a gift for the mom-to-be.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • 60 diapers
    • Thick ribbon
    • Small rubber bands
    • Large rubber bands
    • Cake platter
    • Baby items
    1. Make a Diaper Cake

      • 1

Place a baby bottle (or a bottle of baby lotion) in the center of the cake platter. This will create the core of the diaper cake.

      • 2

Roll each diaper tightly, placing a small rubber band around it to hold it together. The first tier will consist of 36 diapers arranged in three rings. To begin building the first tier, place six rolled diapers around the bottle. Place a large rubber band around the entire ring, to hold it together.

      • 3

Continue building the first tier by placing 15 rolled diapers around the initial ring of six. Put a large rubber band around this ring to hold it in place. Surround the second ring of the first tier with another ring of 15 diapers; place a large rubber band around this ring to hold it together. Take a section of ribbon and tie it around the completed first tier. Make sure you cover the rubber bands with the ribbon.

      • 4

The second tier will consist of 18 diapers arranged in two rings. Above the first tier, surround the remaining portion of the bottle or lotion with six rolled diapers. Place a large rubber band around this ring.

      • 5

Next, make the second ring of the second tier. Place 12 rolled diapers around the inner ring of the second tier, placing a rubber band around this ring to hold it together. Tie a ribbon around the second tier, making sure you cover the rubber band with the ribbon.

      • 6

Place a smaller bottle in the middle of the diaper cake to make the core of the third and final tier. Surround this bottle with the remaining rolled diapers (you should have six left) and place a large rubber band around the ring to hold it together.

      • 7

Tie a ribbon around the final tier, making sure to cover the rubber band. Add baby items to the finished diaper cake as desired.

    Tips & Warnings

    • You may also put small gifts inside the rolled diapers, such as a pacifier.
