How to Make a Flower Seed Mat
Flower seed mats allow you to prepare your seeds before spring arrives, so the only work you need to do at planting time is to lay the mats under a layer of compost and water them. Preparing flower mats involves choosing your seeds and, with the help of an adhesive, sticking them to a biodegradable paper, usually napkins or newspaper. Make a flower mat to get a bit of a head start at planting time, or make one when you are ready to plant simply to ensure that your seeds are evenly spaced. Does this Spark an idea?

Make a Flower Seed Mat
-
1
Select the seeds you would like to use for your mat. Pour them out onto a paper plate or a piece of paper towel.
-
2
Lay down the sheets of paper towel and, according to the spacing instructions on the seed packet, make dots with the marker to indicate where the seeds will be placed.
-
-
3
Put tiny drops of glue on the dots. This will secure the seeds to the mat.
-
4
Wet the end of a toothpick and use it to pick up seeds, one at a time, and place them on their corresponding glue dot.
-
5
Allow the sheets to dry and then store them or plant them right away. Evenly spaced seeds on uniformly sized paper towels fit perfectly in a garden bed. Just rake some compost over the top, water, and watch them sprout.
