1
Get a spray bottle for the garden hose. Squirt a small amount of regular dishwashing detergent into the bottle. Attach the bottle to the hose and spray the soapy water over the lawn, trees, and plants. Use a small squirt bottle filled with soapy water for lovebugs inside the house.

2
Light several candles that contain citronella and place them on patios and near windows or doorways to prevent lovebugs from entering the house and collecting outside. Use insect spray only around areas not accessible by pets and make sure not to spray beneficial insects.

Use a garden hose with the nozzle turned to a narrow spray stream. Wash lovebugs off eaves and the side of the house. Use a wet-dry vacuum to suck up the bugs. Use a regular vacuum inside to suck bugs off curtains, walls, or windows. Empty vacuumed lovebugs into a plastic bag and seal it to prevent bugs from getting back out.

Smear or spray mineral oil (baby oil) over the hood of your car, onto the windshield, and bumpers. Wipe off excess oil to prevent impaired vision through the windows. Lovebugs cannot settle on the slippery surface.
