How to Check an Account Line of Credit
The line of credit is a maximum balance you can carry on your credit card. A credit card is always a revolving account. It means that you can restore the available credit up to amount of the credit line by paying the balance in full. Exceeding the credit limit is against the terms of your account and results in one-time over limit fee, which is between $25 to $40. Importantly, it may also trigger increasing the annual percentage rate for your account, and negatively affect your credit score. Credit companies (banks) periodically review your credit history and may either increase or reduce your line of credit.
The account credit line can be instantly checked by phone or online.

By Phone
-
1
Call customer service using the toll-free number printed on the back of your credit card.
-
2
Enter the 16-digit account number using the telephone keypad. You might also need to enter the last four digits of your Social Security number and ZIP code.
-
-
3
Listen carefully to the account summary offered by a company automated system. Write down numbers given as "Current Balance" and "Total available credit." Note that the account credit line often is not reported.
-
4
Round up the current balance to a dollar, and add up the available credit to obtain the credit line. For example, the current balance is reported as $1,278.89, while the available credit is $1,721. Thus, the credit line equals to $1,279 plus $1,721 or $3,000.
