How to Find Online Sites for Friends

The Internet makes it much easier to find existing buddies and/or make new ones because many online websites (social networking sites) are dedicated to helping people connect with each other and new sites are being created each day. If you have lost touch with an old companion, or want to make new connections with people who share your interests, you can employ several different methods to find these online sites to create or reestablish your friendships.

Instructions

Type the name of your friends in a search engine to see what comes up. Oftentimes, if a person has an account with a social networking community, such as LinkedIn, his name comes up in the search results and you can look at the online site to see if this is your friend or someone who interests you.

Join various online sites like MySpace.com, Ning.com, Facebook.com, Twitter.com and Classmates.com. These sites, along with many others, offer an online network where you can connect with existing friends and meet new ones. A listing of the top 20 social networking sites as of November 2009 is provided in the References section of this article.

Search for online sites that offer a specific niche where you to prefer to find friends. For example, CafeMom.com offers a community for mothers and expectant mothers, Biznik offers support for small businesses and entrepreneurs and BlackPlanet.com provides a network for the black community. To find a site dedicated to particular categories, make sure to include identifying terms in your search engine (for example, "glass art social networking").
