Homemade rose lip balm is a very simple, easy personal care product to prepare. Making your own lip balm can save you quite a bit of money over buying commercially available products whose manufacturers have to pass research, marketing and advertising costs on to the final consumer. Some commercially available products also contain potentially harmful and unnecessary additives and preservatives which are not needed with homemade lip balm and personal care products. This recipe makes enough lip balm for everyday use for about two weeks, but it is easily doubled if a larger amount is desired.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ½ tsp. essential almond oil
  • ½ tsp. essential macadamia nut oil
  • 1 tsp. jojoba oil
  • 1 ½ tsp. lanolin
  • ¼ tsp. vitamin E
  • ½ tsp. cocoa butter
  • ½ tsp. shea butter
  • 1 tsp. beeswax
  • 1 tsp. chopped dried rose petals
  1. Step 1

Combine the essential almond oil, essential macadamia nut oil, jojoba oil, lanolin, vitamin E, cocoa butter and shea butter together in a double boiler.

  2. Step 2

Heat the contents of the double boiler over low heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring regularly until the cocoa butter and shea butter have melted.

  3. Step 3

Add the dried rose petals and whisk together over low heat for 8-9 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Pour the mixture through a fine sieve into a clean bowl. Wash the double boiler and transfer the lip balm mixture back to the double boiler.

  5. Step 5

Add the beeswax to the double boiler and heat over low heat for 3-5 minutes or until the beeswax has liquefied.

  6. Step 6

Remove the mixture from heat and pour into a small glass lip balm container with a screw top. Allow to cool and solidify in the refrigerator for 24 hours before using.

Tips & Warnings
  • Other flower petals can be used instead of rose petals. Chamomile petals make an excellent addition to this simple lip balm.
  • This lip balm also works quite well on dry hands and elbows.
