How to Make Ginger and Apricot Skin Creme

Ginger and apricot skin crème is a very simple product to make at home, and there are several reasons to make your own cosmetics and skin care products at home. Making your skin crème can save you quite a bit of money over buying expensive commercial products, whose manufacturers have to sell products at a higher cost to recover research, marketing and advertising costs through retail sales. Commercial products often contain additives that are known to be harmful or simply unnecessary, which are not needed in homemade products. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.

    • 2

Finely grate the ginger over a small bowl. Squeeze the ginger with your fingers over a small bowl to get about ¼ tsp. ginger juice.

    • 3

Place the ginger root, ginger juice, sesame oil, apricot oil, vitamin E oil, aloe vera gel, cocoa butter and shea butter in a very small glass ovenproof baking dish and place it in the preheated oven. Heats for 5-6 minutes or until the cocoa and shea butter have melted.

    • 4

Remove the baking dish from the oven and add the essential lemon oil. Whisk the mixture together until it becomes creamy and thickens a bit, about 3-4 minutes.

    • 5

Transfer the prepared skin crème to a clean plastic cosmetics container or bottle and place the mixture in the refrigerator for 24 hours before using.

Tips & Warnings

  • The lemon oil can be replaced with your favorite essential oil, as it generally just used to help scent the product. However, you can add essential oils with properties you would like the skin crème to have.

  • Avoid using a stainless steel bowl when making homemade cosmetics, as there is some concern about heavy metals entering the final mixture.
